Rejuvenation Peels

Our Skin Care Specialist will examine your skin and assist you in deciding which type of Rejuvenation Peel, TCA, Glycolic or Jessner is best suited for your specific skin type and condition, and explain the results you can expect.

What are Rejuvenation Peels?

There are several types of peels each utilizing a different compound to create a peeling effect. Medium to deep peels use the chemical TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid). Light peels use glycolic acid (Natural fruit acid, derived from sugar cane) to create a peeling effect. TCA and glycolic peels can effectively improve many skin conditions including:

  • Dull, weathered skin
  • Freckling
  • Uneven skin pigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Shallow acne scars.

The function of a rejuvenation peel is to create an even and controlled exfoliation of several layers of damaged skin cells. The process exposes a fresh layer of skin improving skin tone and texture in addition to removing old, weathered, and damaged skin cells. The peel stimulates new healthy cells to grow, thereby tightening the skin and minimizing wrinkles.

TCA/ Glycolic acid peels
TCA is a non toxic, manmade chemical, which has been used to perform skin peels for over thirty years. Glycolic acid is a natural fruit acid derived from sugar cane. Both these compounds have the advantage of producing a fresh natural complexion, while preserving normal skin color. If you decide you are interested in a glycolic or TCA peel, you will need to have a consultation with our skin care specialist who will examine your skin and discuss the potential benefits and risks of a peel for your specific skin type and condition.
How are the peels performed?
Glycolic and TCA peels are performed in the treatment rooms with a licensed esthetician or doctor. A solution containing TCA or glycolic acid is applied to your skin. Discomfort is minimal. When TCA or glycolic is applied to the skin it causes the top layers of the epidermis to dry up and peel off over a period of several days. After the old damaged skin has peeled away, it exposes a new layer of healthy skin giving you a more youthful appearance.
Do rejuvenation peels require aftercare?
Healing time is minimal with glycolic peels; you may experience light flaking. On the other hand, TCA peels require five to seven days for the rejuvenation process, with day three and day four being your most unattractive days. Anyone who has had a rejuvenation peel is more sensitive to sunlight for at least four to six weeks post treatment. During this time it is extremely important to protect the new skin with a SPF of at least 15 on a daily basis, even after you have healed completely, to protect the fresh new skin.
