ACNE 101 - THE DISEASE.

Traditional Acne treatments and their limitations

Traditionally acne is treated with over-the-counter and/or prescription drugs, topical, systemic and hormonal therapy. For non-inflammatory acne, benzoyl peroxide, topical and systemic retinoids (such as Retin-A, Adapalene, etc...) are commonly used; for inflammatory acne, topical and systemic antibiotics and systemic isotretinoin (Accutane) are the common course of action.

Unfortunately, traditional treatments have their limitations. They often have undesirable side effects, such as skin irritations, burning, peeling and itching. Drugs such as Accutane cause dry mouth, nose, skin and eyes; photosensitivity is increased; other side effects include diarrhea, inflamation of the colon, heart disease, and stroke and birth defects in rare cases (Accutane). Treatments are usually lenghthy (4-6 month before you see effective results) with flare-ups often developing in the early stages of treatment. In addition, 40% of acne bacteria are insensitive to common antibiotics, and there is a rapid increase in incidence of antibiotic resistance in the population.

ClearLight™ Acne PhotoClearing™ is a revolutionary treatment that does not have any of the limitations and side effects of traditional acne treatments.
